About Me
Yowalla (hello) and nga mihi (thank you) for visiting.
I’m Lee “Mucka” Norton, a proud Gunggari, Wakka Wakka, Ngāi Tahu and Te Āwa Iti woman, born and raised on Yugembeh Country in South East Queensland.
I was raised by my beloved koro (grandfather) and kuia (grandmother) in a small country town, where they taught me to walk proudly in both my Aboriginal and Māori identities. My koro shared our Māori culture through waiata (song), and both ensured I stayed grounded in family, language and spirit.
The name “Mucka” was my koro’s nickname for me – a cheeky reminder of my adventurous spirit. As a child, I could never wear white; I was always climbing trees, running through the dirt, and finding joy in the messiness of life.
Creativity has always been part of who I am – I’ve always loved painting, drawing, and making handmade gifts for people I care about. Art has been a way for me to express love, connection, and emotion long before I ever considered it something I would share with the world.
When my koro passed in 2021, and later my kuia in 2023, painting became a healing practice.
Art helped me channel my grief into creation and connection. Through each stroke, I felt my ancestors guiding me, reminding me that our stories never end – they just take new forms.
Today, my art has grown as I've grown. It has shifted with the seasons of my life, from playful exploration, to healing from grief, to gratitude. It is both a spiritual practice and a celebration of identity. Every piece carries the threads of my heritage, connection to Country, and deep love for community.
My work is more than paint on canvas – it’s a reflection of my heart, heritage and the land I live on. Each piece carries story, connection and emotion.
My aim is to create art that feels like home – pieces that inspire reflection, healing and cultural pride.
Thank you for being here and sharing in my story. I invite you to explore my collections and find a piece that speaks to your spirit.
